Workers with South African Transport and the Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) are scheduled to begin a strike at ports across the country at 06:00 (local time) on Thursday, May 30. All port and ship docking operations are expected to be affected by the strike. SATAWU threatened a secondary strike if successful negotiations are not held by Monday, June 3. The strike is expected to affect cargo ship operations across the entire country. Associated protests, particularly near port facilities, are also possible.
