Afghanistan: IED detonates in Nahrin (Baghlan province), killing two June 4

Afghanistan Alerte de sécurité

Improvised explosive device (IED) detonates in Nahrin district (Baghlan province), killing two people June 4; no group immediately claims responsibility for the attack

TIMEFRAME expected from 5/6/2019, 12h00 until 12/6/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Nahrin district (Baghlan province)

An improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Nahrin district (Baghlan province) on Tuesday, June 4, killing two people and wounding at least 12 others. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Similar attacks are possible in Baghlan province over the coming days and weeks.

Taliban and IS militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are, in part, intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country.

Individuals in Baghlan province are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities or their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
