Aviation unions call for protests in airports across the country June 11; flight disruptions expected

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) will hold protests in airports across the country on Tuesday, June 11, to denounce the resignation of the CEO of the South African Airways flag carrier and to call for his reinstation. Protests are expected to be held between 11.30 to 13.30 (local time) at O.R Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, Cape Town International Airport (CPT), King Shaka International Airport (DUR) in Durban, and East London Airport (ELS).

Flight disruptions, including flight delays, are expected in the coming hours at the affected airports. 


Individuals flying into or out of the affected airports are advised to monitor developments to the situation, prepare for flight delays and cancelations, budget additional time to reach their gate, and contact their airline for more information.
