Heavy rain in recent days has caused significant flooding in the southern provinces of Guangxi, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hunan, and Jiangxi as of Wednesday, June 12. At least 49 people have been killed since the start of the rains on Thursday, June 6, and more than 4.5 million residents have been affected along with 7000 homes destroyed. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been one of the hardest hit areas, where almost 600,000 residents have been impacted by flooding and at least 17 people have been killed. Another 88,000 people were evacuated in Jiangxi province. Bridges and roads throughout the region suffered damage and transportation disruptions are likely. Heavy rain is forecast across southeastern China through Thursday, June 13, and may cause additional flooding and landslides before the system moves further north.

Individuals in the abovementioned areas are advised to monitor flood levels and local weather alerts, anticipate road closures and other transportation disruptions, and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain chemical products and wastewater; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
