The World March of Women activist group is calling for a nationwide strike by all women living in Switzerland on Friday, June 14, to highlight women’s rights issues. Associated rallies are planned in major urban areas across the country, including in the capital Bern. The protest in Bern will be held from 11:30 until 17:30 (local time) at Kornhausplatz. While the demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful, a heightened security presence and traffic disruptions are anticipated around the protest sites.
Similar demonstrations are also planned in the following areas: Delémont, Lausanne, Vevey, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Sion, Biel, Solothurn, Brig, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Zurich, and Bellinzona. Specific details regarding the time and location of the rallies can be found on the group’s website
Individuals in Switzerland are advised to keep abreast of the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and allow additional time to travel around demonstration sites.
