The "Aar Li Nu Bokk" civil society group has called for nationwide demonstrations on Friday, June 28. Organizers have called on supporters to rally in Dakar and other urban centers to denounce President Macky Sall's alleged involvement in a petroleum sector corruption scandal and to call for greater transparency in the government's efforts to exploit the country's natural resources.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated near all protest sites. Similar protests are possible in the coming weeks.
Aar Li Nu Bokk has previously staged anti-government demonstrations on June 14 and 21. At least 17 people were injured in clashes between police and protesters on June 14.
Individuals in Dakar are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate localized traffic disruptions and a heightened security presence near demonstration sites.
