The BI-TON movement is calling for a silent sit-in protest to take place in the Hamdallaye area in Bamako on Saturday, June 29, in commemoration of the recent intercommunal violence in central Mali. Protesters are expected to gather near the Monument de l'Obelisque, starting from 08:00 (local time).
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
41 members of the Dogon ethnic community were killed in Yoro and Gangafani (Mopti region; centre) on June 17-18.
Individuals in Bamako are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
