The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) opposition group has announced it will march from Kalutara to Moratuwa on Sunday, July 7, and then continue its march on Monday, July 8, from Moratuwa to Nugegoda - a suburb of Colombo - where participants are due to rally at 15:30 (local time).
A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are expected, particularly along the march route.
The JVP has called for a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister, cabinet, and government, which will be debated in Parliament on July 10 and July 11.
Individuals in Sri Lanka are advised to avoid all rallies and protests due to the risk of violence and to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
