The opposition group Coalition for Social Justice (CSJ) group has called for a demonstration to take place in Accra on Tuesday, July 9, to denounce economic hardship, insecurity, and attack on media freedom. Protesters have gathered at Obra Spot at 06 :00 (local time) and are expected to march through the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, to Farisco Traffic Lights, towards COCOBOD head office, through UTC, to John Evans Atta Mills High Street, and finally end at Hearts Park.
A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are possible in the vicinity of the demonstration. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Accra are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all large public gatherings as a precaution, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, and refrain from discussing political topics in public or on social media.
