Syria Alerte de sécurité

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonation kills 11 people in Afrin (Aleppo province) July 11; police reportedly attribute attack to primarily Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG)

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/7/2019, 12h00 until 12/7/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Damascus). COUNTRY/REGION Afrin region

A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonation killed at least 11 people and wounded 25 others in Afrin (Aleppo province) on Thursday, July 11. Police reportedly attributed the attack to the primarily Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Similar attacks are possible in Aleppo province over the near term.

To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
