Wildfires in Maui's central valley (Hawaii), has burned an estimated 3,000 acres and has prompted hundreds to be evacuated in the city. As of Thursday, authorities did not dispatch firefighters to control the fire as it was deemed too dangerous.
Flights at Kahului Airport (OGG) were briefly diverted on Thursday, as it operated on emergency generators. Operations have since returned to normal by 18:10 (local time).
Lingering disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely to persist over the coming hours and days.
Individuals in Maui are advised to exercise caution when traveling in areas near wildfires, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders), and monitor the situation.
