The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Java and Bali on Tuesday, July 16, around 08:37 (local time) at a depth of 92 km (57 mi). The quake occurred about 73 km (45 mi) west of Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar (Bali) and 10 km (6.2 mi) south of Alas Purwo National Park (East Java province) at the southeast tip of Java. No casualties or damage has been reported as of 08:45 and no tsunami warning was issued. Further aftershocks are possible in the coming hours.
Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor the situation and prepare for potential aftershocks.
In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
