Ukraine will hold snap parliamentary elections on Sunday, July 21. Polls will be open from 08:00 to 20:00 (local time) across the country. Nearly 133,000 police officers will be on duty on Sunday to provide security during the election and increased deployments are expected to continue through Sunday, July 28. Elections-related gatherings and demonstrations are possible on Sunday and following the election, along with associated localized disruptions; unrest cannot be ruled out.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who came into office in May, called for new elections in an effort to adjust the makeup of a parliament that has been controlled by his political opponents.
Individuals in Ukraine are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public gatherings as a precaution, refrain from discussing political subjects in public or on social media, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized disruptions.
