Nigeria: Heavy rain and flooding reported in Abuja July 25-26

Nigeria Alerte de sécurité

Heavy rain and consequent flooding lead to transportation disruptions in Abuja on July 25-26; associated transportation and business disruptions reported

TIMEFRAME expected from 26/7/2019, 12h00 until 28/7/2019, 11h59 (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Abuja

Heavy rainfall and consequent flooding have hit Abuja since Thursday, July 25, leading to significant transportation and business disruptions in the capital. As of Friday, July 26, various main roads remain impassable, including the Kubwa expressway. Some domestic flights at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) remain delayed after operations were temporarily suspended the day prior as parts of the terminal were also flooded.

Further rainfall and associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely over the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions and flight reservations before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
