Syrian government forces carried out deadly airstrikes on Ariha (Idlib province) on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28. A Syrian government airstrike hit an open-air market in Ariha on Saturday, killing at least 11 people; on Sunday, regime airstrikes killed at least five more people and left 21 others wounded. The attacks come amid apparent Syrian government efforts to intensify its military campaign against the last rebel-held stronghold in the country, Idlib province.
Similar regime attacks are to be expected in Idlib province over the near term.
To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.
Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
