Police are investigating reports of at least three separate minor explosions in Bangkok as of 09:55 (local time) on Friday, August 2. According to local media reports, two street cleaners suffered minor injuries after an explosive device detonated in Suan Luang district. Explosive experts have also reportedly been deployed to Building B of the Government Complex on Chang Wattan Road to investigate a suspicious object. Government officials have not confirmed the reports of the explosions; details are still emerging.
The reports of explosions on August 2 come a day after Thai police found two fake bombs near the venue of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting on Thursday, August 1. According to police officials, the suspicious boxes did not contain explosive material and it is unclear if the ASEAN forum was the target of the hoax. Heightened security measures remain in place in Bangkok during the meetings.
Individuals in Bangkok are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant, report any suspicious objects or behavior to the police, and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
