The Mexican government announced on Thursday, August 1, that it would deploy the National Guard to 48 border sections with the intention of containing human trafficking. Officers will mainly monitor Tabasco, Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz to conduct random inspections.
A heightened security presence, increased checkpoints, transportation delays, and processing delays at these border regions are to be expected.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to anticipate a heavier than usual security presence, adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities, and minimize movement at or near the affected borders.
