The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has closed the KwaMashu train station (KwaZulu-Natal province) on Tuesday, August 20, suspending all train service to the station. The decision was made after protesters threw stones during a service delivery demonstration. A police presence was reported at the train station to manage protesters.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected at the KwaMashu station over the next several hours.


Commuters are advised to monitor developments to the situation, seek alternate routes, and anticipate train delays and other transportation disruptions.
