On Tuesday, August 20, UN officials claimed that at least 90 people have been killed and over 200 others wounded in recent days in the southwestern city of Murzuq. Thousands have been displaced in the past week due to intensifying clashes between the Khalifa Haftar-led Libyan National Army (LNA) and tribal opponents. Haftar's forces seized control of Murzuq at the start of the year but had moved out of the city in a bid to take control of the capital Tripoli.
Further fighting is to be expected in the area over the coming weeks.
Individuals in Libya are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid the Murzuq area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
The security environment in Libya remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
