Activists in Dresden are organizing a demonstration against racism on August 24; transportation disruptions expected

A group of civil society organizations and political parties have scheduled an anti-racism demonstration in Dresden (Saxony) for Saturday, August 24. Participants are scheduled to meet up at 12:00 (local time) at the Kulturpalast and an opening rally will begin at 13:00 at the Altmarkt until 15:00. After the rally, another demonstration and final rally will take place at the Cockerwiese.

Another group will meet up at 11:30 at Volkshaus Dresden and will proceed to the Altmarkt at 12:30.

Up to 25,000 participants are expected for the event.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected around all marches, demonstrations, and rallies.  


Individuals in Dresden are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstration areas as a precaution, anticipate transportation and business disruptions and a heightened security presence, and obey instructions issued by the local authorities.
