Tropical Storm Lingling is forecast to start impacting eastern and southern areas of Taiwan on Tuesday, September 3, as it continues to move north from the Philippines towards the Korean Peninsula. As of 09:00 (local time) on Tuesday Lingling is located near 19.6°N 123.8°E (map here) and is moving north-northwest at 20 kph (12 mph). The storm is expected to bring heavy rain across the country on Wednesday, September 4, and Thursday, September 5, as it moves past the eastern coast. While Lingling is not forecast to make landfall on Taiwan, associated flooding and transportation disruptions are possible. Residual rains from the storm are also expected through Sunday, September 8.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
