Several unions have called for a nationwide protest in Ecuador on Thursday, August 5. Groups are strongly opposed to economic and labor policies recently presented by the Lenin Moreno administration. Protests in Quito, the capital, are likely to be the largest. Participants there will gather at 16:30 (local time) at the social security center and will later proceed to the Constitutional Court, then the National Assembly. Protests may also take place in the historic center.
Though times and locations were not immediately available, gatherings should be expected across metropolitan cites and urban centers across the country.
Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected near all protests.
Individuals in Ecuador, and specifically Quito, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, expect transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
