Category 2 Tropical Storm Kajiki, which was located in central Vietnam as the morning (local time) on Tuesday, September 3, and was  moving south-southwest is forecast to bring heavy rain and thundershowers across Thailand from Tuesday through Wednesday, September 4.

According to the Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) rainfall up to 100 mm (3 in) is expected through Wednesday, along with strong winds, particularly affecting 18 provinces across the country: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phichit, Tak, Phetchabun, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Loei, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Ranong, and Phang Nga provinces. These provinces were placed on high alert due to the risk of flash floods, forest runoffs, and landslides.

Associated transportation and business disruptions are anticipated in the event of localized flooding or landslides.


Tropical cyclones and typhoons are common in the western Pacific and the South China Sea from June through November.


Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by the storm are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
