Railway workers to strike and protest in Bucharest Sep. 16-Oct. 14; heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions expected

The Federation of Railway Carrier Unions of Romania has called for a strike of technical staff and four weeks of protests in Bucharest between Monday, September 16, and Monday, October 14, to bring attention to the lack of investments in the railway sector. On Mondays, participants plan to protest between 10:00 and 12:00 (local time) in front of the Ministry of Transport, in front of Parliament on Tuesdays between 10:00 and 12:00, in front of the government building on Wednesdays between 10:00 and 12:00, and in front of the Ministry of Public Finance on Thursdays between 10:00 and 12:00. 

A heightened security presence, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are expected throughout the protest period. 


Individuals in Bucharest, and Romania more generally, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
