The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) maintained an urgent flood alert for the seven central provinces of Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya, and Lop Buri on Monday, September 9, following heavy rain brought by Tropical Storm Kajiki. Water levels in the abovementioned provinces are expected to rise between 30-80 cm (11-30 in) over the coming hours and days. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast further rainfall in the north and central provinces through Sunday, September 15.
Associated power outages and commercial, transportation, and communications disruptions are to be expected in the area over the coming hours and days.
Tropical cyclones and typhoons are common in the western Pacific and the South China Sea from June through November.
Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by the storm are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power, transportation, commercial, and communications disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
