The Spanish meteorological agency issued major risk weather warnings for Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera islands on Wednesday, September 11. Heavy or very strong rain of more than 100 mm (4 in) are forecast over large areas, along with storms in the area. The storm is expected to head south and weaken by Saturday, September 14. Associated flooding and transportation disruptions are possible in the coming days.
Flight disruptions, including delays and cancelations, were reported at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) in the evening (local time) of Tuesday, September 10. Further flight delays and cancelations are possible in the coming hours.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate power outages and transportation and business disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
