Lebanon: Sit-in and roadblocks reported in Berbara September 20

Lebanon Alerte de sécurité

Police reopen closed roads following a sit-in at Berbara September 20; residual disruptions from roadblocks possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 20/9/2019, 12h00 until 22/9/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Beirut). COUNTRY/REGION Berbara

Supporters of Joseph Sami Hannouche, a man kidnapped in the Bekaa three weeks ago, have gathered in Berbara on the morning (local time) of Friday, September 20, to demand support of the government for his release. Protesters reportedly blocked the Jbeil-Beirut highway with burning tires before police reopened the road to traffic. Residual traffic disruptions are to be expected in the affected area.

Protesters have vowed to continue to hold demonstrations and roadblocks until Hannouche's release. A heightened security presence along with localized traffic disruptions are likely around all protests.

Individuals in Beirut are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
