Economic protests have continued into a third day in Tulcan (Carchi) near the Ecuador-Colombia border on Thursday, September 26. Protesters have blocked roads, set fires on streets, and have clashed with police. Secondary students participated in the protest on Thursday, adding to the number of participants. Some have indicated that the strikes would continue indefinitely, until President Menin Moreno respond to their demands. Protests are therefore to be expected over the next several days.
Significant transportation and some commercial disruptions as well as a heightened security presence are expected in the region.
Individuals in Carchi are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by local authorities.
