Pakistan Alerte de sécurité

An explosion in Chaman (Balochistan province) leaves three dead on September 28; similar attacks possible in Balochistan province over the near term

TIMEFRAME expected from 30/9/2019, 12h00 until 2/10/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Karachi). COUNTRY/REGION Chaman (Balochistan province)

An explosion in Chaman (Balochistan province) on the afternoon (local time) of Saturday, September 28, killed three people, including Maulana Mohamad Hanif, the Deputy Secretary General of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) opposition party. Authorities stated that Hanif was the target of the blast, which detonated as he was exiting a business center. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion as of Monday, September 30.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the blast. Similar attacks are possible in Balochistan province over the near term.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qai'da, Islamic State (IS) affiliates, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Afghan Taliban, and other Islamist militant groups continue to pose a threat throughout the country despite continued army offensives to push them from their northwestern strongholds near the Afghan border. Pakistan has suffered numerous deadly attacks in recent months, notably in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

Individuals in Balochistan province are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, remain vigilant at all times, and report any suspicious objects or behavior to the relevant authorities. Due to a high threat from terrorism, as well as kidnapping and sectarian violence, some Western governments advise their citizens to reconsider travel to the country as foreign nationals, and Westerners in particular, may be directly targeted.
