A bridge crossing a harbor in the northeastern township of Suao (Yilan county) collapsed on the morning (local time) of Tuesday, October 1. According to local officials, the incident occurred around 09:30 while an oil tanker was parked on the Nanfangao Bridge. The collapse crushed several fishing boats and set the vehicle on fire. Rescue efforts are ongoing to save fishermen suspected of being trapped in the boats. Military personnel have deployed to the area to assist the operation. Traffic disruptions and road closures are expected over the coming hours and days. Officials have not confirmed any casualties from the incident and an investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing.
