A group of volunteers in the Capa dos Veadeiros National Park (State of Goiás) community have reported that over 6000 hectares of land have been affected by a forest fire as of Monday, September 30. This includes 3000 hectares of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and another estimated 3500 hectares in a conservation unit. The national park has about 240,000 hectares in overall area.
The State Environmental Department indicated that the fire has been ongoing since Friday, September 27, with over 100 firefighters mobilized to put it out. Reports do not show that evacuation orders have been issued, though sources cite that the fire may affect some indigenous populations in nearby areas.
Individuals in the vicinity of the affected areas are advised to monitor developments, exercise caution when traveling in areas near wildfires, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
