Police killed three suspected Al-Shabaab militants during a counter-terrorism operation in Likoni (Mombasa county) on Tuesday, October 1, as part of ongoing security reinforcement in the Mombasa county. The operation follows reported terror threat warnings targeting places such as airports, hotels, restaurants, and ports in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi counties.
Heightened security measures are anticipated in the coming days in the abovementionned areas.
Al-Shabaab continues to carry out attacks near its porous border with Somalia as well as in coastal areas in retaliation for Kenya's participation in a multinational force fighting Al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2011.
Individuals in Kenya are advised to monitor developments, avoid nonessential travel to areas near the Kenyan-Somali border due to the risk of terror-related violence, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
