The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has forecast Typhoon Hagibis to affect south and east Japan from Saturday, October 12, through Sunday, October 13, as it moves through the Philippines Sea. Hagibis is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of Kyushu island, and most of Shikoku and Honshu islands. Flooding, landslides, and dangerous sea conditions are anticipated in the region.
Associated transportation disruptions, including to flights, rail, and ferry service, are possible in the affected areas. Power outages may also occur.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
