Several bush fires have been reported in New South Wales and in neighboring Queensland as of Wednesday, October 9. Authorities have indicated that the fires are due to high temperatures and drought. An estimated 100,000 hectares (247,100 acres) of land are affected, where some fires have been ongoing for over five weeks.

Reports indicate that dozens of homes have been damaged or razed, particularly in Rappville.

Transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the bush fires.
