Retired Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers have called for a march in Tel Aviv in solidarity with Syrian Kurds and in opposition to ongoing Turkish military offensives in northeastern Syria on Tuesday, October 15. Participants plan to gather at 16:00 (local time) at the Turkish embassy and then march to the US embassy on HaYarkon Street.
A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected along the march route.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on October 9 that Turkish forces launched a military operation in northeastern Syria in an attempt to expel Syrian Kurdish (People's Protection Units; YPG) forces from the Turkish border. Erdoğan stated that the air and ground operations will extend 30 km (19 mi) into Syria's northeastern border. The Turkish government considers the YPG to be a terrorist organization linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) group in Turkey.
Individuals in Tel Aviv are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
