The annual Shi'a Muslim religious celebration of Arba'een is set to take place from Saturday, October 19, to Sunday, October 20. A procession will be held in Lahore on Sunday beginning at approximately 07:00 (local time) at the Dehli Gate. An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 people are expected to participate in the procession, which will end at Karbala Gamay Shah around 23:00.
Transportation disruptions, including delays and road closures, are to be expected in areas surrounding the procession route.
Arba'een falls 40 days after Ashura, ending a period of mourning commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, Prophet Muhammad's grandson.
Individuals in Lahore are advised to closely monitor the situation, avoid all protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
