Students in San José are to hold protests on Tuesday, October 22, and on Wednesday, October 23, to denounce a reduction in the education budget. On Tuesday, students will gather at 09:00 (local time) at Pretil at the University of Costa Rica and will later proceed to the Presidential Palace. Students will also boycott classes on Wednesday and will likely follow the same route for a protest, whose time has not yet been announced.

Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be expected near all protests. Roadblocks cannot be ruled out.

Context

Students in nearby Heredia (Heredia province) have been holding protests for several days over the same objections, with road blocks reported on October 19.
