Online sources have reported power outages at New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and across southern Louisiana, affecting an estimated 44,100 customers as of the early morning hours (local time) on Saturday, October 26. Post-tropical storm Olga is the source for the outages, which are mostly concentrated to Jefferson Parish, with an estimated 19,000 affected homes. Transportation disruption including flight disruptions (cancelations and delays) are therefore to be expected over the coming several hours until power is restored. Then, residual delays should be expected as operations normalize. It is unclear as to when power may be restored.
Olga (map here) has weakened over the last several days and currently has wind gusts of 95 kph (59 mph). A flash flood warning is in effect for southeastern Louisiana until 07:00 (local time) on Saturday. Rainfall of 7-15 cm (3-6 in) has been recorded over the last 24 hours in the area. Rain is not forecast for the affected areas past Saturday.
Individuals in southern Louisiana are advised to monitor developments to the situation, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, and keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible. Those traveling via MSY are advised to confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport and to contact their airline for additional information.
