Provincial authorities announced on Sunday, October 27, that the wildfire emergency alert currently in place in the South Sumatra province, was extended through Sunday, November 10, due to persisting wildfires in the area. As of Friday, October 25, 1279 hotspots were still ongoing in South Sumatra and 1030 additional security personnel have been deployed to control the situation.
The emergency alert was first issued on July 31.
Individuals present in South Sumatra are advised to monitor local weather and fire conditions and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
