The Thai Meteorological Department issued heavy rainfall warnings for multiple provinces in lower Northeast, lower Central, the eastern region, and upper South on Wednesday, October 30, due to the approach of Tropical Storm Matmo. Matmo made landfall in Vietnam on Wednesday and is expected to move west through Cambodia on Thursday, October 31, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Thailand. Further heavy to very heavy rain is forecast through Saturday, November 2 in central, eastern, and southern provinces. Updated information can be found on the state weather website here.
Flash flooding and associated transportation, power, and commercial disruptions are possible in the affected areas over the coming days.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before heading out, anticipate adverse weather and power, transportation, commercial, and communications disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
