Widespread power outages have been reported across southwest France as of the evening (local time) of Sunday, November 3, following the passage of Storm Amelie. According to media reports, as many as 140,000 homes are without power. Officials placed 14 of the region's departments on high alert ahead of the storm, which has brought heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 160 kph (100 mph) to coastal areas. Significant transportation disruptions have also been reported as fallen trees and damaged power lines forced several road closures. Dozens of train services were also delayed or canceled in affected areas.
Further power outages and disruptions to transportation are expected in the coming hours as Amelie continues to impact the region.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to consult local sources to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.
