A convoy of buses transporting Muslim voters to cast their ballots in Sri Lanka's presidential election was attacked by gunfire on Saturday, November 16. Police officials confirmed that the buses, which were carrying hundreds of Muslim residents from the town of Puttalam to the neighboring district of Mannar, were hit on Saturday morning (local time) when attackers burned tires on the road and set up makeshift roadblocks to ambush the convoy of more than 100 vehicles. No casualties were reported as a result of the incident. Police have launched an investigation into the attack.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions is anticipated in the affected area over the coming hours.
