Right wing conservative groups are to hold commemorative events in Madrid on Wednesday, November 20, for the former dictator Francisco Franco's death anniversary. The day includes a mass at the Basilica of the Holy Cross of the Valley of the Fallen at 11:00 (local time) and visits to the Pantheon at 12:30 (local time). A "March of the Crown" will be held on Friday, November 22 from Genoa Street to the gates of the Valley of the Fallen. Another march is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, starting from Plaza del Callao to the Plaza de Oriente. A dinner at El Pardo will be held on Friday, November 29.
A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected at each event. The presence of opposition protesters cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Madrid are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations due to the risk of violence, prepare for disruptions to transportation, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
