Argentina: Railway workers to strike December 3, 4

Argentina Alerte de sécurité

Rail workers across Argentina are planning to hold 24-hour strikes on December 3, 4, including in Buenos Aires; significant train service disruptions expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 3/12/2019, 12h00 until 4/12/2019, 11h59 (America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires). COUNTRY/REGION Argentina, Buenos Aires Province

The Railway Union (UF) is planning two 24-hour strikes along multiple train lines in Argentina from Tuesday, December 3, through Wednesday, December 4. According to union leaders, the Sarmiento line in Buenos Aires province will be shutdown from 00:01 (local time) until 23:59 on Tuesday. Similar work stoppages will affect short- and long-distance service on the Belgrano Cargas, San Martin, and Urquiza lines on Wednesday. Significant train disruptions and an increased demand for alternative transportation are expected during the strikes.

Union leaders in Bueno Aires province are accusing employers of failing to provide appropriate hygiene and safety measures for female workers over the past five years, including failing to provide separate changing rooms and restrooms.

Potentially impacted travelers are advised to keep abreast of the situation, confirm train reservations, plan alternative routes or modes of transportation, and allow additional time to travel.
