As of Tuesday, December 10, hazardous air quality levels have been recorded in Kabul, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 170 at 13:00 (local time) in the US Embassy area. On Monday, December 9, the AQI reading in Kabul peaked at 417 at around 15:00. Air quality is expected to improve in the coming days.


An AQI reading of 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 moderate, and 101-200+ unhealthy.


Individuals present in Kabul are advised to monitor the situation, limit outdoor activities until the situation normalizes, and wear N95 rated masks as a protection. Children and those with chronic respiratory illnesses should exercise increased caution.
