A suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated near the Sayidka Junction in Mogadishu on the morning (local time) of Wednesday, January 8. According to local sources, the blast was reported around 09:30. Local media also reported heavy gunfire in the area following the explosion. Details are still emerging.


Individuals in Mogadishu are advised to avoid the area of the blast, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
