Flight operations are resuming at Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) as of Monday afternoon (local time), February 3, after a drone sighting in the takeoff area prompted the airport to temporarily close its airspace earlier in the day. Some 26 flights were forced to reroute away from MAD, according to Spanish airport operator AENA.

Lingering flight disruptions (e.g. delays, cancelations) are to be expected at MAD over the coming hours. Further drone sightings are possible over the near term and may similarly disrupt flight operations.

Individuals traveling to and from MAD are advised to confirm the status of their flights, monitor the situation, and contact their airline for additional information.
