Political opposition groups are planning to hold protests in Moscow on Saturday, February 8, and Saturday, February 15, to oppose recently proposed constitutional amendments. On February 8, demonstrators have been granted permission to march near the Bratislavskaya metro station from 14:00 until 16:00 (local time). Streets around the station will be closed to traffic during the protest. The rally on February 15 will be held at Suvorov Square starting at 12:30.

A heightened police presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around all protest sites. Similar rallies are possible in Moscow and other major cities over the coming weeks.

President Vladimir Putin proposed significant constitution reforms on January 15 that would give parliament, rather than the president, the power to appoint the prime minister and cabinet. The amendments were fully drafted into a legislative bill by January 20 and passed its first reading on January 23. Opponents to the reforms claim that the reforms will allow Putin to remain in power after his fourth presidential term ends.

Individuals in Moscow are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate a heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
