Event

In the evening (local time) on Sunday, February 9, Storm Ciara (Sabine) hit Switzerland and will continue through Monday, February 10. Dangerous winds up to 140 kph (87 mph) and heavy rain are expected, with extreme danger (red) warnings issued through much of the northern half of the country. Less severe orange alerts have also been issued for southern regions. Winds are expected to reach hurricane levels in mountainous areas.

Several flights to and from Geneva Airport (GNV), EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL), and Zurich Airport (ZRH) have been canceled, and schools have been closed on Monday.

Further transportation disruptions, including flight and train delays and cancelations, are to be expected over the coming hours and days.
