Sudan: Fuel shortages reported nationwide February 19

Sudan Alerte de sécurité

Fuel shortages reported across Sudan as of February 19; transportation and other disruptions possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 18/2/2020, 11h00 until 29/2/2020, 10h59 (Africa/Khartoum). COUNTRY/REGION Sudan

A fuel shortage is affecting Sudan's main cities as of Wednesday, February 19, causing long lines at gas stations and transportation disruptions across the country. According to the Sudanese government, the shortage is a result of defective pipelines and a lack of funds to purchase oil.

It is not yet known when the situation will return to normal. Associated protests cannot be ruled out.

Individuals present in Sudan are advised to fill up vehicles whenever fuel is available, ensure sufficient fuel reserves before all long journeys, and expect longer waiting times at gas stations. Keep in mind that crime rates tend to rise after nightfall in areas without street lighting, and be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning. Individuals throughout the country are advised to avoid all demonstrations and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
